We can’t leak, lose, sell, or misuse information we never collected.
“It might be useful later” isn’t a good enough reason to keep something about you, and buying it from somebody else doesn’t make the snooping more polite. If we ask for information, we should have a plain answer for why we need it now.
There is real comfort in a company knowing less about you.
